Vauxhall has announced the return of the Frontera nameplate in 2024. The name will make its comeback on an all-new SUV model.
Due to be revealed in the coming weeks ahead of deliveries starting at the end of the year, the new Frontera is larger than the Crossland which it replaces and will introduce the option of an electric powertrain.

With the arrival of the Frontera and next-generation Grandland, all Vauxhall cars and vans will be available with a fully electric version by the end of 2024. The arrival of the battery-electric variant of the new Frontera, along with the launch of the all-electric version of the next generation Grandland (also scheduled for this year), will mark an important milestone in the British brand’s transition to becoming a fully electric brand. Vauxhall will then offer at least one fully electric version across its entire car and van range.

In addition to the name drop, Vauxhall told Auto Express that the new Frontera will sport a “more rugged” interpretation of its latest design philosophy. It will be, Vauxhall said, "a fun car with clever functional features" and "a high level of space and versatility" in a bid to appeal to "customers with an active lifestyle and families alike". James Taylor, Managing Director, Vauxhall, said: “The name ‘Frontera’ is ideally suited to our exciting new SUV model. It will have a confident character and be positioned right in the core of the market.”

All clues point to the new Frontera being a direct rival for the Dacia Duster, and like that car, Vauxhall has promised it will be offered "at an attractive price" - likely starting in the low-£20,000s.

Our previous spy images of a camouflaged prototype Frontera reveal the Frontera is obviously a radically different proposition from the Crossland. Vauxhall will reveal the first images of the new Frontera along with more detailed information on the newcomer in the coming weeks.
